Prints…Not Skins

There was a time when people went crazy over animal skin on coats and jackets. It made a statement in the world of fashion. It was so costly that only the higher class and elite people could afford it. Later on a question on animal cruelty came up.Killing animals just for the their skin to make clothes? Was it very necessary? PETA slammed many fashion brands for animal cruelty. It made people think nonetheless the sales still kept going. Many considered it royalty to wear animal print. Over the recent years an alternative for fur has taken the industry by storm- Faux fur. What do you think about animal skins as a fashion statement?

  1. If we really care about animal cruelty, we can’t really have those sustainable fashion products that use production processes that are not too harmful to the environment, that are long-lasting, and that are biodegradable. That is exactly what animal skins are. Yes, they aren’t perfect; leathers and furs use chemicals in their processing and finishing (like all other textiles), and sometimes the farming has an environmental impact. But when you consider how long a good fur coat or high-quality leather bag lasts, you’ll realize that the environmental damage is minimal compared to the lifespan of the item.
There are no alternatives that are biodegradable, sustainable, long lasting, and environment-friendly.
